Songs of Resistance

Resist the nightmare or hold the lesson from the shocking vivid dream you had last night or today, courtesy of Uranus and the moon?

I think of the Gilets Jaunes, through maloya (Creole music) or not, bravely resisting, showing us solidarity and the true meaning of anarchism: Decentralised, organised, with no appointed or self-appointed leaders, inclusive of wheelchair users. I don’t see LSF translators but I trust they are working on it, frontlines when there is police violence onto peaceful protests isn’t the safest for Deaf/HoH people. I am in solidarity too with those facing violence at US borders and the indigenous Brazilians threatened by the Bolsonaro govenment. I’m deprogramming my nightmare with Uranian indigenous music, from New Zealand to Mexico and Brazil. The latter and the first band usually caption their videos with translation. See the indigenous band’s channel as the last I embedded below is instrumental, for the reader who may not like metal. As for me, the right kind of metal calms me down.

As the source of the above 3 videos says, Cemican are a Mexican metal band that focuses on Mayan and Aztec mythology, their mixture of traditional instruments and chants are a nice counterpoint to their heavy metal sound:

Kallathon, Kuxuan Suum, Volahn , Axeman, Ashdautas, and Arizmenda “make up the Black Twilight Circle. Kallathon has put out a number of black metal cassettes with Mayan and native themes”. The vids are not showing so I linked Kallathon’s and watch the rest on the website, I don’t appreciate the inclusion of Anthrax’s vid. Brazilian band Corubo, you can check out that Youtube channel (theirs) with their indigenous metal music. And I admit I got all others from a twitter thread and there was no Black Indigenous-Metal, but look up Botswana’s scene and Southern/East Africa. And CN for imagery…
